Summer Update 2025
Hi all!
Quick summer update before the year crests and we tumble back into darkness.
Psychopomp Blues is now readable and in the query stage! If any agents are reading this, do think about taking a chance with this work. It’s a specific vibe, and not for everyone, but I feel like those who do gel with it are gonna love macabre yet bleak tone.
This is the first time I’ve found myself getting particularly choosy with representation. Ofttimes it can be a little up in the air whether an agent is the right fit. Even after reviewing someone’s wish list, ‘captivating stories’ can seem a little broad, and chasing after such wish lists results in a lot of rejections.
With Psychopomp, I know almost immediately whether an agent will be interested or not, and it’s making the whole process of querying more enjoyable.
I’ve also been revisiting the city of Orlom in my redraft of Lullaby Thunder, the sequel to The Sitherwyck spoils. How fun it is to return to second world fantasy after a break. Entirely different writing muscles get some exercise when I dive into this genre, and it’s a comfort to know that, despite my heavy focus on Urban Fantasy in the past two years, these characters, these places and these magic systems are still alive and intact.
Lastly, my table-top mafia roleplaying card game, Omertá, is currently being play tested. I’ve never ventured this far into game design before, though so far, it isn’t dissimilar to writing. You’re still allowing the audience a particular experiences, and adjusting pieces when that experience plays out a different pace. The key difference here is that the player takes on some authorial responsibility, which to be honest is quite a load off.
That’s all for now! Watch this space for any updates on Psychopomp Blues, and reach out to peterflynnwiliams@gmail.com if there are any materials you would like to check out.
With love,
PB
